A bike lift?
Yup, a helping hand for getting up hills when you're on your bike. This bike lift opened in 1993 as part of a scheme to get more people on to their bikes in Trondheim in Norway.

What an excellent idea! I know I'm unlikely to cycle into Oldham Town Centre as it's up what is basically a 4 mile hill!
So for steep hills this makes life easier! Although definitely dearer - apparently the cost for 15 minutes of continuous operation is 100NOK ($13)!
