Cycle to work scheme

 

In the UK we have a cycle to work scheme to encourage more bike use.

However it has certain limitations -

"Employers can pay up to 20 pence per mile tax free to employees who use their own cycles for business travel. Journeys between home and work are not business travel for this purpose.
Employees cannot claim the 20p per mile tax-free mileage allowance for business travel if they use a cycle loaned to them by their employer."

So it gives you a a bike loan or cheap bike through your employer so this might encourage you to get on your bike.

Other important bits: the employer should also consider installing secure cycle parking, providing showers, establishing a bicycle user group (BUG) and inviting a cycle training provider to carry out an instruction course on safe cycling.
